The festival features an international selection of contemporary electroacoustic art music. These works are performed annually on the Florida Electroacoustic Music Festival. Papers, demonstrations, and studio reports are also presented during the three day festival. Composers- in-Residence have included noted composers of electroacoustic music such as Charles Dodge, John Chowning, Morton Subotnick, James Dashow, Paul Lansky, Richard Boulanger, Barry Truax, Larry Austin, Joel Chadabe, Jon Appleton, Gary Lee Nelson, Cort Lippe, and Hubert S. The Florida Electroacoustic Music Program at the University of Florida, headed by Dr. James Paul Sain is designed to support both composition and research. The primary focus of the facility is in the furtherance of contemporary art music. Courses are offered at both the graduate and undergraduate levels in topics such as the history and literature of electroacoustic music as well as the composition of electroacoustic music using MIDI, hard disk recording and editing, direct-digital software synthesis systems, and realtime interactive applications.

Each semester the students and faculty of electroacoustic music host concerts of current music in the genre. The UnBalanced Connection concert series highlights works by students as well as established composers. Annually the School of Music, College of Fine Arts, the Center for the Performing Arts, and the FEMS presents the internationally renowned Florida Electroacoustic Music Festival. Students are encouraged to work on interdisciplinary projects.
As the flagship higher education institution for the state of Florida with a student population near 49,000, The University of Florida has numerous outstanding departments and colleges capable of supporting research between areas of study. Of particular interest to the student of electroacoustic music are studies in our departments of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Computer and Information Science and Engineering. These units offer the student an opportunity to work with internationally acclaimed researchers in neural networks, digital signal processing, and simulation modeling, to name a few. Several assistantships are available to graduate students in electroacoustic music that involve both teaching and systems development.
